about me

I've always liked making things. I find well-designed software to be beautiful. I admire the art of crafting products that people love.

5 day hackathon

October 2022

Hackathons are some of my favorite times of the year. I’m a believer that people’s best ideas are when they’re given full creative freedom, which often isn’t the case with planned feature work. I’ve participated for four hackathons so far, winning one as well.

I’ve explored a command menu and an AI assistant, interaction patterns that are completely brand new in institutional trading software. Take a look at some of the promotional videos I created for them, sound on!

pROBLEM

Addepar has grown into a multi-product platform company, with dozens of different products. However now the platform is very fragmented and isn't a seamless user experience.

research

After researching other trading softwares, many of which historically have been desktop applications, I realized we're missing a universal menu. While desktop users have the menu bar and right click menus, web applications don't have those priviledges.

  • Trading is an action-oriented product unlike our other products

  • Our UI patterns often don't support an action-forward interaction model

  • We often stratify different workflows on different pages, which leads to constant hopping

solution

I created two promotional videos outlining the concepts.

timeline

I spent two three-day hackathons exploring these ideas.

solution

My concept hinges:

  • Using a monospaced and condensed font for technical copy, to reinforce a high-performance look and feel

  • Heavy use of rounded corners to uphold an ease-of-use aesthetic

  • Using transparency to elevate the premium feel as well to indicate varying dimensions of depth

  • A complete reworking of our components and colors to break the mold and emphasize fresh new look for the platform

I created three promotional videos outlining the concepts.
